Paintless Dent Removal ( PDR ) is the art of removing minor dents and dings without sanding, filling, or painting. PDR evolved as the automobile evolved. Manufacturers began to use thinner, more resilient body panels. This lighter guage metal is what allows the indentation to be moved and "massaged" back to its original position and shape. As the vehicle evolved, so did the vehicle's paint. New high tech paints in use today are of a very high elasticity, allowing expansion and contraction with the ding as it is removed, without cracking or peeling.
PDR does not involve grinding, filling, or painting. Also, no chemicals are used, so there is no harm to the environment.
